Hardy Annual

  • Germination : Easy
  • Aftercare : Easy
  • Ideal for : Borders
  • Height : 24 inches

Description

Producing a robust floral display of rose-pink, deep blue and white, this easy-to grow salvia mix is a colourful annual border plant which is ideal for direct sowing into beds. The uniform height, weather tolerance and brilliant colours (all flowering simultaneously) of Salvia Marble Arch Mixed make it a 'must' for any garden.

Although classified as an annual, the plants will go to seed if left and will flower the following year.

Sowing Instructions

Sow March to May. Sow seed outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 12mm (½in) deep, in rows 30cm (12in) apart.

Can also be sown in pots or trays of moist seed compost. Cover seed with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Keep at between 15-20ºC (59-68ºF). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 7-14 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. Plant out into borders or containers once the young plants are well-rooted in their pots after all risk of frost.

Growing Instructions

When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 20cm (8in) apart.

Aftercare

Water during dry spells to prolong flowering.
