Carrot 'Caracas'
Description
‘Chantenay’ types are increasingly popular in the supermarket but have been a gardeners’ favourite for years. Caracas is best sown quite thinly to produce short, conical coreless roots of outstanding flavour. Ideal for sowing in containers as a ‘baby carrot’ for salads. Rich orange flesh full of vitamins. Ideal fresh or for storing.
Sowing Instructions
Sow at 4 week intervals. Sow thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 23-30cm (9-12in) apart and thin out only if necessary to 2.5cm (1in) apart for small sweet roots. If larger roots are required, carefully thin out to 5cm (2in) apart. Prefers well-drained, moist, rich soil and cool conditions. Later sowings provide an essential ingredient for stews and casseroles.
