Allium porrum. An alternative as a milder flavoured spring onion when sown thickly. Leek Lancelot is ideal for growing in containers, use in salads, stir-fries or as a steamed vegetable. Also grow as a full sized leek for autumn and winter harvesting.
Sow seeds from March to May. Sow seeds quite thickly direct outside or in containers, 13mm (½in) deep. Sow seed in succession for a continuous supply of baby leeks.
No thinning necessary. If required for full blanched leeks in autumn/winter then sow thinly and transplant, allowing 25cm (10in) between plants.
Earth up around stems as they develop. Keep well watered during dry weather.
