From June to October, from golf ball size, when roots are tender and sweet
Smooth, dark red skin and tender flesh. Beetroot Bolivar produces 'baby beets' or full sized beetroots.
Sow seeds March to July, in well prepared soil in a sunny spot. Sow seeds thinly 13mm deep in drills 30cm apart.
Thin to 2.5cm for baby beets or to 5-7cm for larger roots. Keep well watered during dry spells to avoid bolting (running to seed) or woody roots./p>
Roots from later sowings can be lifted in autumn, leaves twisted off and stored in trays of dry sand or compost in the shed or garage.
Ideal for baking, pickling, or grating raw into salads.
