May to September outdoors, November onwards under glass
Spinach Palco produces dark green leaves with good mildew tolerance.
Sow seeds March to July outdoors, in well prepared soil in a sunny spot. Sow seeds thinly in either narrow or broad drills, 13mm deep and 30cm apart. Suitable for successional sowings throughout the year. Can also be sown in September to October under glass.
Thin seedlings to 5cm apart for 'baby leaves' and 10cm for larger plants.
Keep well watered to avoid bolting (running to seed).
Popeye was right! You can eat no better vegetable than spinach as it is rich in Vitamins A and C, beta-carotene, lutein (which helps protect against eye disease) and dietary fibre.
Add raw baby leaves to salads, or steam for a tasty and nutritious cooked vegetable.
