Tomatoes are actually a fruit not a vegetable and vary in size from very small cherry tomatoes to giant 'beefsteak' types where one slice will fill a sandwich. My name is Tomato Tigerella and I am unusual as I am red with yellowy-orange stripes. I am a big round, really yummy tomato and easy to grow. Height: 1.2m.
Sow me indoors in 7.5cm pots of moist compost. Sprinkle the seeds over the surface of the compost and cover with a small amount of compost. Put the pot inside a polythene bag and put in a propagator or warm place around 18-20C. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not too wet. I will start to grow in 7-14 days.
When the plants have 4 leaves pot each one into its own 7.5cm pot. Grow on in a bright position. When all the frost has gone, plant me outside in a sunny spot 45cm apart.
Pinch out my side shoots as they appear. You will have tasty tomatoes to eat from August onwards.
Tomatoes are hungry plants and for lots of fruit will need feeding every week in summer with tomato fertiliser.
