A distinct and appealing reddish-brown skinned, semi-globe shaped bulb, Onion Rosanna has a strong flavour and stunning pink rings when sliced. Improved breeding, but Onion Rosanna still offers a taste of the past, similar to those purchased from the French onion seller of yesteryear.

I grew this from sets in 2009 and was very impressed. The bulbs were of medium size, very attractive appearance and stored very well. Excellent flavour. I was disappointed that sets were not avaiilable for 2010 or 2011, but at least the seed is now available. Well worth a try.
Sow seeds March to April. Sow seeds thinly, 13mm (½in) deep in drills 45cm (18in) apart.
Thin as necessary to 5cm (2in) for smaller bulbs or 7-10cm (3-4in) for large bulbs.
Keep well watered during dry weather. Tease bulbs from the soil with a fork as the leaves die down, leave to cure in the sun for a few days or dry in trays in the greenhouse or shed. When bulbs fully dry hang in mesh bags for use over winter.
