The beautiful, broad golden stalks of Swiss Chard Bright Yellow are a striking and colourful addition to the vegetable garden and the flower border or containers. The sweet stalks can be steamed as a vegetable or, when young, eaten raw in salads. Swiss Chard Bright Yellow is slow to bolting and has good winter hardiness.
Cropping from mid-summer to late autumn. After a normal winter, it will re-emerge to give an unbelievably early spring crop.
Sow March to August in succession. Sow thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart.
Thin seedlings to 23cm (9in) apart when large enough to handle, thinnings will be suitable for using in salads. Can also be sown in broad drills and left unthinned for cut and come again salading.
Prefers a rich, moist, well drained soil.
Soup can be made from the leaves, while the stems can be stripped and cooked like Asparagus.
