A productive, late summer to early autumn leek, with a good tolerance of Leek Rust. Leek Blue Green Pandora has long, pure white, quality stems with dark green upright foliage. Quick to mature too, approximately 90 days after transplanting.
Bred to give increased Hybrid vigour, garden performance and flavour, thus increasing your harvest. Due to their wide ranging pest and disease resistance, there will be no need for the use of chemicals, making them ideal for organic gardeners.
Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (½ inch) deep in drills 30cm (12 inches) apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings to 23cm (9 inches) apart and 45cm (18 inches) between rows.
Prefers well-drained, fertile soil. Water ground regularly, especially during dry periods.
Leeks are high in folic acid, potassium, and Vitamins A and C. They contain sulphur-rich compounds which have been shown to thin the blood, reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Delicious when baked in a rich cheese and tomato sauce.
