Extremely dense, low-growing mounds of moss-like foliage create an outdoor carpet of fresh green. Use as a base in the border for growing spring bulbs to flower through, or tumbling out of crevices in rockery. The effect is glorious!
Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed sowing mix in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Keep at a constant temperature of between 59-68F (15-20C). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination can take 1-3 months.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 3 inch (7.5 cm) pots or trays. Gradually acclimatize young plants to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 12-18 in (30-45 cm) apart.
For best results, provide a moist but well-drained, sandy soil in full sun. Plants will prove reliably hardy if wet winter conditions are avoided.
