Sow seeds thinly, ideally in broad drills, 13mm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in well-drained, fertile soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.
Water regularly, especially during dry periods to minimise bolting (running to seed).
Thin seedlings if necessary to avoid overcrowding and poor root development.
