A hand-blended mix of beautiful Japanese Primulas. Ideal for moist shady borders or beside a pond. Stout stems bear whorls of 2cm (¾ inch) blooms in shades of red-purple, pink and white, often with a contrasting eye. Height: 45-60cm (18-24in).
Sow seeds immediately on receipt on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays and cover with a very light sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at a temperature of between 15-20C (59-68F), or place in a coldframe or sheltered position outdoors. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination can take 1 to 2 months and may be erratic.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots or trays. Plant out once plants are well grown, 30cm (12 inches) apart.
For best results, provide a humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade.
