Bush/Basket
A bushy, dwarf variety, especially bred for growing in baskets and containers, where stems and fruits fall gently over the sides. Tomato Maskotka produces a heavy crop of sweet, red 25-35g (1-1¼oz) cherry fuits with a good resistance to cracking.
Place seeds on the surface of a free-draining sowing mix and cover with about 6mm (¼in) of sowing mix or vermiculite. Place in a propagator at 18-21C (65-70F) until after germination which takes 7-10 days.
Maintain temperature about 15C (60F). Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Plant in final position when plants are 10cm (4in) high. For indoor crops plant into containers, tubs or baskets, which can also be placed outdoors once frost risk has passed. For outdoor crops, acclimatise plants outdoors for a few days, before planting up in containers.
Protect against any cold winds until established. Feed plants weekly, with a high potash tomato fertiliser once first fruits have set. It is not necessary to pinch out growth or sideshoot. Harvest fruits regularly to promote further flowers and to extend the picking season.
Tomatoes are packed with antioxidants and high in vitamins A and C and lycopene, all helping to stimulate your body's immune system.
