Large and small, blue and green leafed varieties. Although they will not reproduce identically, worthwhile colour combinations should appear. Height: 12-30cm (12-30in).
Sow from late winter to late summer 1.5cm (½in) deep in a peat based compost. Make sure that the compost is moist but not over wet and seal in a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 1-3 months at 10C (50F).
Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Later plant out 45-60cm (18-24in) apart in sun or part shade in a moisture retentive soil to which some peat has been added.
Coloured foliage forms give their best show in part shade.
