The natural branching habit of Begonia Stara Mixed, along with its large, floriferous blooms in four bright colours - white, rose, pink and scarlet - all set against glossy foliage, make this robust begonia suitable for bedding out in borders, or for creating a superb cascading effect in window boxes or baskets.
Sow mid January to mid March. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or seal container in a polythene bag and put in warm place, and keep at a temperature of around 24-27ºC (75-80ºF). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 15-60 days.
CAUTION: Dust-like seeds. To open, hold over a sheet of white paper, cut along three sides of inner pack and carefully open out flat. Tap the packet gently to dislodge seed.
Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 15-20cm (6-8in) apart, or plant into containers.
