Description

Vigorous and easy to grow with amazing cropping potential, Sweet Pepper Gypsy produces plenty of delicious peppers 7-10cm (3-4in) long, 6-8cm (2½-3in) wide. 7-10 days earlier than standard varieties. Sweet Pepper Gypsy will crop most summers outdoors, but immense crops will be achieved under greenhouse conditions. The sweet, well flavoured fruit turn orange to red at maturity and resistance to Tobacco Mosaic Virus increases the probability of healthy plants.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds early spring in good compost and barely cover the seeds. Germination usually takes 8-14 days at 24-27C (75-80F).

Growing Instructions

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) and finally 20cm (8in) pots or grow-bags if to be grown under glass. Gradually acclimatise outdoor plants to end of springtime weather, and plant out in early summer 60x90cm (24-36in) apart in moist, well drained soil in a sunny sheltered spot after all risk of frost. Under glass aim for a daytime temperature around 24C (75F) and 16-24C (60-75F) at night, otherwise fruit setting may be poor.

Aftercare

As the flowers form, make sure the compost is always evenly moist. Give a weak application of fertiliser as the blossoms open and water in well. To ensure continued cropping, pick the fruit as soon as they start to colour and ripen off the plant.
