Description

It's finally available - and ONLY from Thompson & Morgan! Our flower breeders won a Fleuroselect Novelty mark back in 1999 for this beautiful new variety, but it has taken some years to build up the seed stock to be able to offer it to our customers. The bushy, dark-leaved plants will quickly trail through borders or over the sides of containers and baskets, whilst the contrasting dark red, double blooms, exclusive to this variety, make Cobra a spectacular 'must-have' for your garden this summer! Trailing to 75cm (30in).

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Slow to Grow
By Amanda Dawson 19-06-2011
Bought for stunning color, expected a riot of leaves and flowers by now. Only have a few leaves in a pot. Shared seeds with a friend and they have same result. Will choose an old faithful variety next year instead.

Beautiful flower, though some problems with germination.
By Ellen Kunec 21-05-2011
I first grew these in 2009 and 1 pack of seeds sown direct it to a large tub produced a fabulous display. But since then, I have had problems with germination, same as the other two reviewers. It's possible that the seed has to be fresh and so buying half price in September for planting the following year is where I went wrong. But I will persevere as they are striking flower. And the self set flowers you get next year aren’t so bad either.

Poor germinaton
By Alan Sharpe 30-04-2011
Out of two packets, I've only succeeded in getting four seeds to germinate. All other nasturtium varieties I bought this years have had near 100% germination.

Replacement of seeds
By David Thornton 30-04-2011
My original packet of seeds produced just one seedling. I sent a letter and empty seed packet back to customer services and was immediately rewarded with a new packet of seeds without any quibbles. This packet has produced numerous healthy seedlings that I can't wait now to pot up the seedlings and enjoy the display.

Sowing Instructions

Sow outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 20mm (¾in) deep, in rows 30cm (12in) apart.

For Earlier Flowering: Sow seed 1cm (½in) deep, 3 seeds per 7.5cm (3in) pot, in free-draining, damp, seed compost. Place at 20-29C (68-86F) until after germination. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out after risk of frost. Before planting into containers, ensure plants are well rooted in their pots.

Growing Instructions

When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 23cm (9in) apart.
