New breeding in 'picking lettuce' to give a crisp textured leaf of excellent flavour. Simply cut the stem of Lettuce Multy and the multi-leaved head falls to pieces, so you can just rinse, shake dry and it is ready for the sandwich or salad bowl.
Lettuce Multy has excellent downy mildew resistance for a long season of production.
Sow seeds March to August. Sow seeds thinly 13mm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.
When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 30cm (12in) apart. Harvest a few leaves from each plant, or cut a full head and keep surplus leaves in the fridge where they will remain fresh for several days.
Keep well watered during spells of dry weather.
The dark green leaves of lettuce are a good source of beta-carotene and Vitamin A.
