Perfect for outdoor growing, ideally through black plastic for warmth and weed suppression, and to keep the fruit clean. Produces a good crop of 10-12cm (4-5in) mini fruits throughout the summer if picked regularly. Crunchy, bitter-free fruits with a good cucumber flavour. Plants are powdery mildew tolerant.
Sow mid April to early June under glass to transplant outdoors. Sow seeds 2.5cm (1in) deep, in pots or trays of good seed sowing mix at 20C (68F) under glass or in a propagator. Protect emerging seedlings from direct sunlight to avoid scorching.
Pot on individual seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots of sowing mix and keep barely moist to avoid stem rot. Maintain a temperature of about 20C (68F). Plant out 75 x 75cm (30 x 30in) apart once frost risk has passed.
If space is limited, train up supports/netting. Do not remove male flowers as outdoor varieties need pollination.
