Description

A reliable heirloom favourite reliably producing a high yield of long pods of superb flavour which snap readily when young and tender. Must be picked regularly for optimum yields. Red flowers.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seed mid April indoors for transplanting, or late May to July direct outdoors. Sow seed 5cm (2in) deep in 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays of good, free-draining, seed sowing mix. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag and place at 18-20C (64-68F) until after germination which takes 7-10 days. Can also be sown direct outdoors once the soil has warmed, sow 15cm (6in) apart, 6cm (2in) deep and in rows 45cm (18in) apart.

Growing Instructions

Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 7-10 days before planting out after all risk of frost, against canes or netting.

Aftercare

Hoe regularly and keep well watered. Give a liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks.

Slice diagonally, boil and serve with butter.
