Traditional Italian torpedo shaped bulbs with stunning, deep purple red skin. Bulbs of mild and sweet flavour, ideal sliced for salads and stir-fries, also pickling. Dual purpose - pull young as spring onions or allow to form mature bulbs.
Sow March to August for spring onions, March to April as a bulb onion. Sow seed liberally in broad drills for pulling as spring/bunching onions, 12mm (½in) deep, in drills 30cm (12in) apart. If sowing for mature bulbs sow thinly.
No need to thin seedlings for spring onions. For mature bulbs, thin to 7cm (3in).
Keep well watered.
Mild and sweet flavour sliced into a mixed salad and in stir-fries.
