Small, conical roots with broader shoulders. When sown quite thinly the roots are almost coreless with delicious flavoured, rich orange flesh. Succession sow throughout the season. Later sowings in June provide superbly flavoured, main crop roots which store extremely well. Can also be grown in containers.
Sow April to June at 4 week intervals. Sow seed thinly, to avoid need to thin out, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart. Thin to 2cm (1in) if necessary.
Traditional favourite for winter soups, stews and casseroles.
