A choice mix of three British bred Broccoli varieties, Red Admiral F1 hybrid, Rudolph and Cardinal. Vigorous plants to provide top quality, large purple spears throughout the winter and spring at a time when fresh vegetables are often in short supply. Grows best in fertile, moist, well drained soil.
Sow seeds from May to early June. Sow seeds thinly in a well-prepared seedbed, 12mm (½in) deep. Keep watered during dry weather.
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, about 5 weeks from sowing, allowing a minimum of 60cm (2ft) between plants in the row and 75cm (30in) between rows. Firm in well and keep watered until established. Net against pigeons and cabbage caterpillar.
Pick regularly to promote fresh flushes of spears.
For the best flavour, steam broccoli within hours of harvesting.
