Sow seeds thinly at regular intervals, 1cm (1/2 in) deep in drills 30-38cm (12-15in) apart.
Thin seedlings to 30cm (12in) apart for full hearted lettuce or to 15cm (6in) for 'baby leaf or 'cut and come again' salad.
Water well during dry periods.
The dark green leaves of lettuce are a good source of beta-carotene and Vitamin A.
Crunchy hearts make it an ideal salad ingredient. Cut heads can keep for up to 2 weeks in refrigerator.
