Extremely easy to sow and grow, very attractive, the petals make a great addition to salads and are a much cheaper alternative to saffron in rice dishes. Producing a long lasting display, they are really robust withstanding all the British weather throws at them

Grown from seed, these plants are quick to establish and require minimum maintenance .They develop into bushy, vigorous plants and with regular dead heading produce a bright and cheerful sea of colour. A good value addition to annual bedding.
Sow outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 12mm (½in) deep, in rows 30cm (12in) apart.
For Spring/Summer flowering - Sow in a cool greenhouse or conservatory in late summer/early autumn. Grow on cool in full light and water sparingly.
When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 20cm (8in) apart.
The petals can be used as a substitute for saffron, added to soups, rice or omelettes. They also make a bright addition to salads.
