Sow 8 to 10 weeks before last frost at 18 to 20C (64 to 68F) on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination usually takes 14 to 30 days.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots or trays. Gradually acclimatize young plants to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 15 to 20cm (12 inches) apart.
For best results, provide any ordinary, well to drained soil in full sun
