Attractive giant blooms in a glowing colour mixture of bright orange, yellow and glistening white, shine out from mounds of foliage in sunny borders or containers all summer.
Sow February to May in pots or trays of good seed compost. Place in a propagator or warm place, providing an optimum temperature of about 15C (59F). Lightly cover seeds with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged, germination will usually take 10-14 days.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost.
Provide a rich, well-drained soil in full sun, spacing plants by 30cm (12in).
