Quick forming clumps of fleshy sword-like foliage and a succession of clustered blue, lilac and mauve flowers. Very hardy and trouble-free in the border.
Sow from February to early June, just covering the seed with compost or Sow-Lite (vermiculite). Seal inside a polythene bag until germination. Seed germinates in 30-40 days at 20-30C (70-85F).
Prick out into 7.5cm (3in) pots, grow on in a greenhouse or well lit windowsill. Harden off and plant out 30cm (12in) apart in sun or light shade and rich, moist well drained soil.
