At last! A plant that not only tolerates, but positively thrives in dry, hot, sunny borders and rockeries! The succulent, fleshy-leaved plants cover the ground quickly, and become clothed in a rich carnival of colour all summer long.

Sparkle brighter!
By Christine A Jones 06-10-2011
I trialled Sparkle against a cheaper mix this year as I was dubious of the claims that it would flower all summer. It won by a mile as indeed it did flower for much longer and was healthier, the cheaper mix was lost to mildew weeks earlier and I still have a few plants of Sparkle still in flower in October!
Sow February to April. Place seed on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost and cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and place at 20-25C (68-77F) until after germination which usually takes 14 to 30 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3 inch) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12 inches) apart.
