An exciting selection of purple, red, pink and pale pink forms. Bred by the nursery situated near, and named after the highest of the Mourne Mountains in Co. Down, Ireland - Slieve Donard. Height: 90-180cm (3-6ft).
Sow late winter to late summer at 16-18C (60-65F) in a good compost. Sow seed on surface of compost and gently firm down compost. Keep soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light, sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Germination usually takes 1-6 months.
When large enough to handle, transplant and grow on in cooler conditions, such as a cold frame. Over-winter in a cold frame and plant out in spring 30-60cm (12-24in) apart in sun in a deep, rich, moist yet well drained soil.
Avoid heavy wet soils as excess damp can be fatal. Once established they don't like to be disturbed.
