Significant advantage to the home gardener. Once mature, Savoy Cabbage Tarvoy remains in harvest condition for several months. Very hardy with dense, dark green heads. An outstanding performer in difficult conditions.
Sow seeds late winter to mid summer in a specially prepared seed bed or coldframe (for late winter) or for most reliable germination in seed boxes in heat. Sow seeds very thinly 1cm (½in) deep in 15cm (6in) wide rows.
Transplant during late spring/early summer, into a sunny site 46x46cm (18x18in) apart.
The soil should be well drained, with some humus, and firm, not recently dug.
Eaten raw or cooked, cabbages are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Try to use all healthy outer leaves, as the darkest green leaves contain the most nutrients.
