New breeding in Summer Savoys, Savoy Cabbage Estoril produces an attractive, round, mid green, savoyed heart, approximately 500g (1lb) in weight.
Delicious eaten raw, adding texture and taste to a summer salad.
Good holding ability during the heat of summer.
Sow seeds February under glass for earliest crops. Sow seeds on the surface of free-draining compost in trays, then lightly cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite. Place tray in a propagator at 20-25C (68-77F) until after germination which takes 4-7 days. Plant out when plants have 2-3 true leaves.
Sow seeds outdoors March-May. Sow seeds thinly in a well prepared seed bed, 13mm (½in) deep in drills 23cm (9in) apart.
Plant out to 45cm (18in) apart each way when large enough to handle, approximately 5 weeks from sowing.
Prefers a moist, rich, well-drained soil.
Eaten raw or cooked, cabbages are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Try to use all healthy outer leaves, as the darkest green leaves contain the most nutrients.
Delicious taste, colour and texture in green summer salad.
