Especially for the back of border producing crinkled, fragrant blooms, up to 15cm (6in) across. Leathery, silver-grey foliage. Height: 180-240cm (6-8ft).
Sow in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 60-65F (15-18C). Sowing Depth: Surface sow on a peat/sand mix seed compost and do not exclude light. Sowing Time: February- July. Very slow and irregular germination. Keep the seed compost cool and moist but not saturated at all times.
Transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots when large enough to handle, taking care NOT to damage the roots. Grow on in same temperature for 3-4 months until well rooted in their pots, then move to a cold frame for overwintering. Plant out the following spring. Space the plants 1.2-2m (4-6ft) apart. Prefers a rich, light, well drained soil in a sheltered sunny site.
