A Froth of Pink
By Christine A Jones 01-09-2011
This gypsophila is easy to grow and gives a soft romantic feel to basket and container displays. Such a change from the same old lobelia and a perfect partner for white bacopa. An added bonus is the self-sown seedlings which appear in between the pavings the following season!
Sow in February/March in a good seed compost don't cover the seed with compost as light is beneficial to germination. Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is also helpful. Germination takes 5-14 days at 21-24C (70-75F).
When large enough to handle transplant the seedlings to boxes or 7.5cm (3in) pots, and grow on in cooler conditions. When well grown gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out in late spring after all risk of frost has passed 23cm (8in) apart in full sun and well drained soil.
