From a 'sport' which Ken Bunton, a T&M customer, has re-selected over a number of years for shape, a larger base and good skin quality. Onion Bunton's Showstopper produces an award-winning exhibitor onion weighing up to 2.27kg (5lb) as well as a mild-tasting vegetable for the kitchen.

Sow seeds December to March. Will grow in any fertile, well-drained soil. For exhibition sized bulbs sow seeds 1cm (½ inch) deep in pots of compost and place at minimum 20C (68F). For smaller bulbs, seed can be sown outdoors in March.
Prick out seedlings when large enough to handle and pot up into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots. Grow steadily and transplant to a well prepared onion bed from late April.
Keep well fed and watered throughout the growing season.
For years onions have been used as one of the oldest medicines for their anti-bacterial, antiseptic and anti-asthmatic properties. They have also shown to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
The mild flavour makes this onion ideal for a wide variety of kitchen uses.
