Bean : Broad Bean : Aquadulce Claudia

This variety is universally recognised as being best for an autumn sowing. Broad Bean Aquadulce Claudia establishes itself very quickly and will produce a very early crop. It is white seeded and the pods are up to 23cm (9 inches) long. Height: 90-100cm (36-40in).

Bean : Broad Bean : Bunyards Exhibition

A gardener's favourite for over 100 years for its reliable performance and heavy crop of long pods in most soils. The pods contain an average of 6 beans, with some up to 8 seeded. Broad Bean Bunyards Exhibition has a very good flavour and excellent for freezing.

Prefers well-drained, moist, rich soil.

Bean : Broad Bean : Express

This is the fastest maturing variety of any broad bean and an early spring sowing will out yield all others. Broad Bean Express produces up to 34 good pods per plant! It is also winter hardy, outstanding for deep freeze as it does not discolour and probably for the same reason is particularly tender and tasty. Broad Bean Express replaces Imperial Green Windsor over which it is a considerable improvement.

Green seeded pods 37cm (15in)+ with up to nine large beans. Broad Bean Imperial Green Longpod is succulent, tasty and suitable for freezing. Height: 105-120cm (3½-4ft).

Bean : Broad Bean : Jubilee Hysor

A major improvement on traditional varieties, Broad Bean Jubilee Hysor produces a tremendous yield of broad, well filled pods, each containing 6 to 8 beans of superb flavour.

White seeded pods 15cm (6in). The highly productive variety of Broad Bean Medes produces medium sized pods, each containing 5-6 tender, sweet, juicy beans. Suitable for spring sowing. Highly recommended for freezing.

An excellent dwarf variety only 30cm (12in) high that produces lots of 13-15cm (5-6in) pods each bearing five small, but deliciously tender beans. A very good flavoured broad bean, with good pod length and remarkable table qualities. It may well be the best green-seeded variety, excellent for deep freezing and growing well under all conditions. Height: 75-90cm (30-36in).

Bean : Climbing : Borlotto Lingua di Fuoco ( Firetongue)

A multi-purpose Italian speciality, either for fresh young pods as flageolets (semi-mature pods with succulent seeds) or more usually as haricots (full mature pods with ripe seeds). Spectacular, flattish, pale green pods are heavily splashed with reddish streaks which disappear on cooking.

Bean : Climbing Bean : Blauhilde

Delicious bunches of stringless, purple, round/oval fleshy pods up to 27cm (11in) in length over a long harvest period. Climbing Bean Blauhilde is attractive in vegetable and flower gardens, especially if mixed with yellow or Borlotto beans, or Sweet Peas. Common Bean Mosaic Virus resistant. Ornamental for both flower and vegetable gardens. refers well drained, moist, rich soil in a sunny situation.

Massive crops of mid green, smooth, round, stringless pods about 18cm (7in) long. Climbing Bean Cobra is a highly attractive mauve flowered variety, a delight in the border, and with an exceptional flavour. Huge yields of these flavoursome beans over a long cropping season. Bean : Climbing Bean : Fagioli Rampicanti Dolcio del Metro

Vigorous plants producing a tremendous crop of very long, thin green pods up to 45cm in length, hence their name. Fagioli Rampicanti Dolcio del Metro is also known as ‘asparagus bean’. Flavour is at its best when picked young and tender.

Produces a heavy crop over a long picking season if picked regularly whilst young and tender. Fagioli Rampicanti Eden produces pods 25-27cm long, pale green, flat, 2cm broad and stringless.

Attractive pale yellow ‘waxpod’, producing 20cm pods about 2cm broad. Fagioli Rampicanti Marengo is very early to harvest first pods and a prolific cropper over a long season if picked regularly whilst young and tender.

Very early to crop, with a long harvest period and decorative mauve flowers. Climbing Bean Fasold produces a huge harvest of superb flavoured, long, fleshy, round, mid-green stringless pods that are slow to develop seeds. Its semi-climbing, less vigorous habit makes it ideal for growing under glass for the earliest crops.
